The Mandalika, Lombok MotoGP show which will be held in 2022 will attract the attention of many people, both local and international. This opportunity can be utilized by Pertamina-assisted Micro and Small Enterprises (UMK) to introduce local products, especially Lombok Island.
Acting Pertamina Senior Vice President (SVP) Corporate Communications and Investor Relations (CCIR), Fajriyah Usman, said that holding the World Superbike (WSBK) motorbike racing event in Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) would later have a multiplier effect in various fields.
One of them is definitely the creative economy and tourism sector. Where Pertamina’s MSEs can take part in promoting Indonesian culture through the various local specialty products they make.
“So it is hoped that it can have a significant impact and support efforts to progressively upgrade MSEs,” he said.
One of Pertamina’s fostered partners who is located quite close to Mandalika is Bayu Hendra Putra. The business owner of Gibran Rattan Shop runs his business in Ds. Baleka, District. East Praya, Kab. Central Lombok.
The distance is around 30 km or less than an hour’s journey by land from the Mandalika MotoGP location.
“It’s a privilege for us, hopefully we can be a destination for tourists at the MotoGP event,” he said.
Bayu said that the Gibran Rattan Shop itself started in 1987 and was founded by his father. Initially, people in Lombok made a lot of wickerwork made from ketak rattan, called kecopok, which was then used as a tobacco holder.
“My father saw that this had the potential to be marketed, so in the end he tried to bring it to Bali and it turned out that many people were interested,” he said.
As time went by, his business began to be passed on to his children. Until finally in 2020, Bayu decided to join Pertamina’s guidance.
He experienced a number of business developments. Starting from increasing the number of permanent workers from the original 3 to 5 people.
This of course also had an impact on production from the original 200-500 pcs/week to 250-600 pcs/week. The net turnover that can be pocketed is around IDR 12-18 million every month.
Another MSE who lives not far from Mandalika is Ana Hardiana. Both live in Kec. Praya Timur, owner of UMK Hardiana Craft, also has a handicraft business, the majority of which are made from rattan and ate (grass).
“In my village, some people weave as a source of livelihood apart from farming. “Starting from elementary school children to parents, it has become a tradition,” said Ana.
Therefore, Ana continued, she feels she has a strong desire to be able to promote rattan crafts not only in Indonesia but throughout the world. His dream slowly began to come true.
Since becoming a member of Pertamina in 2020, he has been able to export his products to South Korea, Brazil and England.
“Thank God, even though there is a pandemic like this, my efforts have never waned. Because it was assisted by capital and guidance from Pertamina. “So that my business can continue to be better than before,” he said.
This is evident from the condition of its business which can be said to have gone up in class. The number of workers, which was originally only 2 people, has now become 7 people. Production, which was initially only around 50-100 pcs/week, has increased drastically to 1 container/month if orders are busy. From these sales, Ana can make a profit of up to IDR 20 million every month.
Fajriyah added, through the MSE Funding Program (PUMK), Pertamina is also sharing energy to revive the economy in national tourism areas through the MSE Empowerment Program around 5 Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP). One of them is DPSP Mandalika.
Pertamina also continues to support the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) based programs in all its operational areas.
This is part of Environmental and Social Responsibility (TJSL), in order to realize economic benefits in society. (KS-5)
